Rise of the Robots

Rise of the Robots

Before it was released in 1994 (for Amiga and Super NES, it was later ported to just about everything including 3DO and Game Gear), people were practically soiling themselves with excitement at the prospect of a 3D-rendered robot fighting game that looked like its graphics had been lifted from a Silicon Graphics workstation. As it turned out, all that it ever really had going for it though was a small selection of cool-looking robots – because as a fighter, or even as a video game, it lacked the necessary constituent elements. Far from the the Street Fighter-botherer that was promised, Rise of the Robots was so limited that the duelling robots couldn't even turn to face the opposite direction, and you could floor most of the AI opponents by just spamming the same move over and over.
