'Star Trek: Bridge Crew'
Characters in Star Trek used the holodeck to live out dreams of infinite variety. We use VR helmets to pretend we're in Star Trek, and it's amazing. In Star Trek: Bridge Crew four players take on the roles of engineer, tactical officer, helm officer and captain on the bridge of the USS Aegis – her mission, to find a new home plant for the Vulcans to live on once the crew have got over looking at how funny it is to wave their virtual hands around. Each player has an array of buttons and displays laid out in front of them and each stage of the mission requires co-operation to power up systems and then distribute that power to whoever needs it, whether for shields or the warp drive or whatever. It's complex enough to require concentration but simple enough to pick up and then get carried away with, shouting “Engage!” and “Shields up!” and “Look at my hands, it's like I'm playing an invisible trumpet!”
