'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe'
God bless the one person in any given circle of friends who bought a Wii U and then had everyone round to their house to play Mario Kart 8. In 2017 their couch finally got a break, thanks to the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch. The deluxe version included all the bonus characters and levels, as well as a revamped Battle Mode that has eight tracks and five variants and makes the one part of the game that felt underserved suddenly essential. There were also tweaks to the competitive online stuff but mostly it was just an excuse for more people to return to a game that gets the knife-edge balance of a fun party game that turns ruthless at the launch of a shell. Was it really just Mario Kart 8 again? Basically. But it was Mario Kart 8 again on a console that more than one person in any given circle of friends bought.
