'Hamilton' Sweeps Tony Awards 2016 Nominations
The 2016 Tony Awards nominations were announced Tuesday morning and Lin-Manuel Miranda's 'Hamilton' got a record-breaking 16 nominations.

The 70th annual Tony Awards nominations were announced Tuesday morning at the Diamond Horseshoe at the Paramount Hotel in midtown Manhattan. Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway smash
Hamilton swept the categories with a record-breaking 16 nominations, surpassing the 15-nom record held by The Producers and Billy Elliot.

Pop musicians were featured prominently in the Best Musical category. Sarah Bareilles earned her first Tony nomination for writing the music and lyrics to Waitress, about a young girl who uses baking for escape. The "Brave" singer recently told Rolling Stone "this was the best decision I could have made." Bareilles is up against other unconventional Broadway composers, folk-rock musician Edie Brickell for Bright Star and heavyweight Miranda for his acclaimed hip-hop musical about the first treasury secretary.

The Late Late Show's James Corden will host the 2016 Tony Awards, broadcast live on CBS June 12th from the Beacon Theatre beginning at 8 p.m. EST.
