After being charged for driving his silver 2007 Mercedes 101 mph in a 60 mph zone, the former Jaguars tackle unleashed some vitriol for his team's city. As he sat handcuffed in the back of a police car, Barnes railed, "It's all racist. That's all that was right there. All racist. This is unbelievable, man, unbelievable being a pro athlete in Jacksonville. I can't wait to get out of here. Can't wait." Barnes also referred to Jacksonville as a "hick town" and called the sheriff's deputy who arrested him a "white KKK devil who hates all colored people."
