Who Wants to See an Umpire Riding a Hoverboard?

Sure, Yoenis Cespedes’ awesome three-wheeler might be getting all the Spring Training headlines, but it’s got nothing on Future Ump’s sweet hoverboard.

Yes, despite warnings from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that they are essentially rolling deathtraps, hoverboards remain hot (how else was Markieff Morris going to ride off into the sunset in Phoenix?) And now, they’ve infiltrated the world of college baseball, thanks to one forward-thinking umpire’s bold decision to ride one between the basepaths. And that’s a major-league move.

In a video tweeted out by Johns Hopkins University’s baseball team, we can even see the man in action, as he glides into position on the third base line without breaking a sweat (or noticing that people were probably laughing at him).

Even if, as JHU pointed out later, this didn’t actually happen in a game – dude was actually instructing high school umps during an intersquad scrimmage – that doesn’t make this any less swaggy.

Sadly, it’s probably only a matter of time until some commission deems hoverboards too dangerous for umpires, too – after all, they do burst into flames at an alarming rate. So let’s just enjoy this while it lasts.
