The moment we’ve all been waiting for is almost here.
On August 20th, Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor will meet in the Octagon for a highly anticipated rematch at UFC 202. The two fought for the first time at UFC 196 earlier this year after the UFC’s Lightweight Champion at the time, Rafael dos Anjos, had to pull himself from the headline event due to a broken foot he suffered in camp. With only a few days notice, Diaz agreed to replace dos Anjos and ended up defeating McGregor in the second round by submission to the surprise of just about everyone.
Everybody except for Diaz himself, of course.
McGregor and Diaz were scheduled to fight at UFC 200 — the same event Brock Lesnar took down Mark Hunt before becoming yet another UFC fighter to test positive for something they shouldn’t — but a disagreement between McGregor and the UFC put those plans on the backburner. McGregor flirted with retirement (as did Diaz) before the two sides eventually came to an agreement. That set the table for UFC 202 to be the time and place for their rematch and all the trash talking that you knew was going to follow.
With only 19 more days remaining before UFC 202 and no controversy coming out of either McGregor’s or Diaz’s camp, it’s officially time to get excited. And if this video from the UFC doesn’t do the trick, the nine minute extended preview almost certainly will.
