Watch Snoop Dogg’s First Trailer for New ‘Coach Snoop’ Series
While many know Snoop Dogg for his musical accomplishments, he’s also well known for his love of football, particularly the Steelers, and his work as commissioner and coach for his longstanding Snoop Youth Football League. SYFL, which gives inner-city youth across the country a chance to play football, will be the subject of a new AOL reality series called Coach Snoop. The show features the behind-the-scenes trials and tribulations of the kids participating in their quest for the national championship.
The first trailer was released on Thursday coinciding with NFL Draft Day, which makes sense as the league has sent several players to the NFL and provided other opportunities. Last year, Snoop’s son, Cordell Broadus, received a scholarship to UCLA.
“Music was a great way for me to introduce myself to people,” Snoop says in the trailer. “But my true calling is to be a mentor.” The clip shows that Snoop not only serves as inspirational coach, but cheerleader and consoler to his squad through tension and drama, which includes a police run-in.
“There’s more to the world than just those four blocks that they live on,” the rapper/coach continues in the video. “This is what great men do. We don’t do it for the money, we do it for the love.”
Snoop’s no stranger to web series, having recently launched his own Planet Snoop. In other Snoop news, the rapper was the first musician to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and his “Gangsta Boogie” track with the late J Dilla appears on the posthumous The Diary, which was released earlier this month.
The nine-episode Coach Snoop series premieres on May 19th on AOL.
