First, it was Russell Wilson’s turn to laugh off Super Bowl XLIX. Now, it’s Marshawn Lynch’s.
In the season premiere of The League, set to air September 9 on FXX, Lynch makes a cameo and pokes fun at the Seahawks’ blunder that cost them the Big Game. You know, when instead of giving it to Beast Mode at the 1-yard line and letting him plow his way into the end zone, they flushed their title dreams down the toilet by inexplicably throwing the ball, only to see Malcolm Butler snatch it out of the air and secure the victory for the Patriots.
Surely you didn’t forget, did you?
Anyway, on The League, Lynch is faced with a similar predicament. He’s chilling on the beach with Taco when Kevin, desperate for a brewski, asks for a cold one. Lynch offers to play it safe and run it over – “Come on, man. We’re so close. I could run it over. He’s right there!” – only to be shunned yet again, as Taco nearly kills his brother with an errant toss.
Hilarious, right Seahawks fans? Well, it turns out that Jackie and Jeff Schaffer, the creators of the show, feel your pain. They’re avid Seahawks fans, and knew one way or another that Lynch would be showing off his acting chops at some point during season seven.
“We are Seahawks season-ticket holders and we had so much fun having Marshawn on last year that we had to do it again,” the duo told Entertainment Weekly. “If the Seahawks had won the Super Bowl, it was going to be a parody of the ‘I’m going to Disney World!‘ ads. As you may have heard, that did not happen. So after we cried ourselves to sleep for the next month, we knew what the scene had to be about.”
If only, am I right?
