Watch Hafthor ‘The Mountain’ Bjornsson Break Keg Toss Record

We don’t want to take anything away from Michael Phelps, Simone Biles, Katie Ledecky or any of the other Olympians competing in the Rio Summer Olympics right now. They’re all great and do things that pretty much all of us could never do (like dressage? Can you get a horse to dance to “Smooth”?). But we’re pretty sure none of them, except maybe a few weightlifters from former Soviet Bloc countries, could pick up a beer keg and chuck it in the air. And if they can pick up a metal keg and throw it like they were skipping a rock in the sea, it’s pretty safe to say they won’t break the world’s record for keg throwing.
But you know who can? Hafthor “Thor” Bjornsson – the most terrifying dude in the world with the cutest dog ever – who you might know as the Mountain from Game of Thrones. He can pick up that thing that was just dispensing Miller High Life to you and just chuck it over wherever. He’s so good at it, in fact, that he now owns the world’s record for chucking a beer keg.
For those of you keeping score at home, he broke the record at the World’s Strongest Man competition in Botswana by picking up something that weighs 33 pounds and just hurling it up in the air like he was just messing around with a basketball.
So I know what you’re thinking: That’s not a ton of weight. In fact, 33 pounds is like a chubby three-year-old. But then you really think about it, and yeah, the mechanics of something like that looks downright impossible, especially how fast that thing takes off when it leaves his hands, and then the fact that he could easily clear an NFL goal post (like a few feet over it). So while it might seem like the sort of thing you could probably do, we would highly suggest not getting a few beers in you and trying this at home – or anywhere else.
