Watch Cristiano Ronaldo Battle Moths, Sob During Euro 2016 Final

Despite its star player being relegated to the sideline, Portugal won its first European title

Cristiano Ronaldo was a rollercoaster of emotions during the Euro 2016 championship game on Sunday.

It all started within the opening 25 minutes of the match when the Real Madrid star collapsed to the ground with a significant knee injury. While he attempted to fight through the pain and continue playing, he eventually took himself out of the game by seeking medical attention. That brought tears to Ronaldo’s eyes and set the table for one of the thousands of moths that invaded the State de France prior to kickoff to become the star of the show.

Despite Ronaldo being relegated to the sideline, Portugal wound up winning its first European title thanks to an incredible goal by Eder in the 109th minute. (Ronaldo predicted that Eder would score the winning goal, by the way, if you’re willing to believe everything you’re told.) Even though there were still 10 minutes remaining in the game at that point, it didn’t prevent Ronaldo from acting like he had won the lottery by — you guessed it — breaking into more tears.

And hey, given the magnitude of the victory — Ronaldo said Portugal deserved this “after many years of sacrifice” and dedicated it to”all Portuguese” and “all immigrants” — good for him. We’re just glad to see that he eventually got to celebrate the title with a big smile on his face, and it doesn’t look like he’s ever going to let the trophy go.
