Watch Common on Being a Chicago White Sox Fan Rooting for the Cubs

It might not seem like much: a famous rapper, actor and juice spokesperson going on late-night television and talking about how he’s excited about his hometown’s baseball team being in the World Series. But this is Common on Late Night with Seth Meyers we’re talking about, and Common is a Chicago White Sox fan. Not a Chicago Cubs fan. There is a massive difference; they’re basically two entirely different religious groups that have a somewhat similar belief set but are still not the same, sort of like one being Catholic and the other being Protestant. 

Theoretically, Common, who is “about unity” and trying to bridge the gap between the two fanbases, isn’t wrong. That yeah, you’d think an entire city would want to come together if a team wins a championship, especially a team that hasn’t won one since 1908, but we’re talking about the Cubs and White Sox here, North Side against the South Side. There’s a whole bunch of complex stuff that goes into that conversation, and while he has good intentions and wants his hometown to win, Common may have just pissed off more than a few White Sox fans.
