See the Roots Perform Super Bowl Raps on ‘Tonight Show’
The Roots turned Super Bowl-themed tweets into quick songs on The Tonight Show. The game airs on Sunday and features the Carolina Panthers against the Denver Broncos.
With the band’s singer Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter at the helm, the band tackled tweets sent by Tonight Show fans that were tagged with #SuperBowlRaps. “Who’s gonna win? A Bronco or a Panther?/Don’t ask me, I don’t know the anther,” a fan wrote in the first tweet rapped by Trotter.
Later, the band imitated Drake’s “Hotline Bling” with the lines “I know when that doorbell rings, it’ll be the chicken wings/I know when that doorbell rings, it’ll be chicken wings.” It was followed up with a remix of R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix)” about Peyton Manning’s forehead.
Songs by Vine-famous rapper Silento and Eminem were also imitated before the final #SuperBowlRap took a dig at the New England Patriots quarterback who lost to Manning in the conference finals. “My Super Bowl party will be the bomb, baby/Watching from the couch, just like Tom Brady.”
