With Thursday being Barack Obama’s final day in the White House, LeBron James took some time to thank the Obamas for their service.
In the video posted on Uninterrupted – a multimedia site created by the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar for athletes – James began by saying the Obamas have been a huge inspiration to him, his family and the American people over the last eight years. He also said they have set the standard for those who have big dreams of one day becoming President of the United States, the First Lady or taking a position in office.
“As crazy as it sounds, tonight is Obama’s last night in office,” James said. “I just want to say to Barack, to Michelle, to the kids and everybody, you guys have been a true inspiration – not only to myself, not only to my family and my kids, but to everybody. To people that got dreams about wanting to become the President of the United States or the First Lady or being in office when people say you can’t do something, you guys have set the standard on you can.”
James then went on to address Obama personally to let him know how much he appreciates everything he accomplished as President before calling him and his family “friends” and wishing them the best in retirement.
“Barack, I just want to say thank you for leading our country the best way you could every single day, standing tall every single day, no matter the ups and downs, no matter the circumstances, no matter how difficult things may have seemed or things may have been for our nation, you were always a staple. We truly appreciate it, as the people.”
