Ronda Rousey Says UFC Can Wait, She’s Doing ‘Road House’
Good news for anyone awaiting Ronda Rousey’s return to the Octagon. Not only has she been seen sparring with her trainer for the first time since her loss at UFC 193, but she told Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday that she’s getting ready for a rematch with Holly Holm.
The bad news, however, is that we still have no idea when that’ll be.
UFC president Dana White had originally hoped to get Rousey back in action by UFC 200 in July, but that was nipped in the bud due to her commitment to the Road House remake. White then shifted his focus to November, but that date doesn’t look likely either, because Rousey revealed that filming for the movie has been pushed back until May – three months later than production was originally scheduled – a move that has impacted her plans to take some time off, not to mention the rest of her film slate (which includes roles in Mark Wahlberg’s Mile 22 and Tina Fey’s Do Nothing Bitches.)
“I promised that I would film Road House after the last fight,” Rousey said on The Tonight Show. “I made a promise, and that’s it. My word means something, and I’m going to film Road House first.”
That’s probably not what WWE superstar and former UFC champion Brock Lesnar wants to hear. During an appearance on SportsCenter, he was asked about Rousey’s loss to Holm, and he wondered aloud if being a Hollywood star and a UFC champion was even possible.
“You can’t be a fighter and be in 10 movies a year,” Lesnar said. “She’s going to have to step back and figure out what Ronda wants to do.”
Funnily enough, with all that chatter about what she should or shouldn’t do, Rousey recently filed to trademark “FTA” – an acronym for “Fuck Them All.” It’s almost like she’s trying to tell us all to mind our own damn business.
