Ronda Rousey on UFC 207: ‘This Is Definitely One of My Last Fights’
As if there wasn’t already enough intrigue going into UFC 207 on December 30th, now Ronda Rousey – who is going into her first fight in over a year since losing by KO to Holly Holm at UFC 193 – says this next fight could be one of the last times you’ll see her in the Octagon.
“I’m wrapping it up. This is definitely one of my last fights,” she told Ellen DeGeneres on Ellen on Tuesday.
Rousey, one of the biggest UFC stars in the world, is set to make her comeback against Amanda Nunes. It could be a pivotal match for Rousey, one that could be viewed as her comeback, or, if she loses, one that could throw her entire career into question. But this new revelation that the fighter might not be looking to compete much more in the future puts the match into a whole new context.
Much was made about Rousey’s November 2015 loss. She talked of disappearing, only to come back a few months later to say the loss made her feel suicidal. Forbes recently estimated Rousey as one of the highest-paid female athletes in the world (behind Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova). This next fight was touted as her possible redemption, but now it has the feel of the start of a long farewell tour if she’s honest about stepping away.
