Mickey Gall Doesn’t Think CM Punk Should Fight in UFC

To those who doubted CM Punk could make the jump from wrestling to mixed martial arts, his UFC debut didn’t exactly convince them otherwise. In fact, with Mickey Gall forcing him into submission within the opening two minutes of the fight, Punk’s first bout couldn’t have gone much worse.
Nevertheless, Punk is determined to give the UFC another shot. Even though Dana White said he probably shouldn’t have his next fight in the UFC following his defeat, Punk recently talked to White about giving him another chance and now believes his next fight will be in the Octagon. He even teased that a potential fight announcement was coming soon because he’s “at a point where I want to get something on paper.”
Of all the people who aren’t convinced that’s a good idea, the man who handed him his first UFC loss is one of them. While talking to TMZ about his upcoming fight against Sage Northcutt, Gall was asked about his thoughts on Punk’s gameplan and said that, while he respects his drive, his next fight probably shouldn’t be in the UFC.
“I respect that,” Gall said. “I don’t know – it’s not my place to say. I don’t know if he should be fighting in the UFC. I think he probably should’ve fought elsewhere first. But I respect that he wants to get back at it and go for it, so hats off to him.”
Whether it is with the UFC or not, we should have a better idea of where Punk’s MMA career is heading soon.
