Kevin Garnett, the 15-time NBA all-star, 2004 MVP, Olympic gold medal winner and NBA champion in 2008, is retiring from basketball, ending what is no doubt a career destined for the Hall of Fame.

One of the most fearsome competitors of his generation, Garnett was taken fifth in the 1995 draft out of Farragut Academy in Chicago, going on to become one of the greatest players to ever make the jump from high school directly to the pros. Drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Garnett would lead the franchise to its greatest success before moving to Boston to help restore the league’s most storied franchise to the top of the basketball mountain, winning the 2008 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. After a stint in Brooklyn, Garnett returned to Minnesota in 2015.

Also one of the most notorious trash talkers the game has ever known, Garnett was the epitome of the player you hated if he played against you, but loved more than anything if he was on your team. In 2015 he joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Jason Kidd and Elvin Hayes as only the fifth player in league history to play at least 50,000 minutes. He will also retire as the Timberwolves all-time leading scorer and the NBA’s all-time leader in defensive rebounds.
