Is Marshawn Lynch Coming Back to Football?

The Summer of Marshawn Lynch might be coming to a close, but It looks like the running back might not be done with football after all.

When Lynch announced his retirement from football seven months ago, not everyone was convinced. Shortly after he did, Seahawks general manager John Schneider basically said he had no clue if Lynch was going to retire because he’s almost impossible to predict. Then, at the end of May, the first report that Lynch was mulling a comeback – albeit only three months after he lit Twitter on fire – surfaced from Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole.

Now that the NFL season is underway, the odds of us seeing Lynch back on the field appear to only be getting greater. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Lynch is still “up in the air” when it comes to his return to the NFL, and he could make a decision about his future by week four or five of this season.

If Lynch does decide to give it another shot, the Seahawks would have the option to keep him, trade him or cut him. If he comes out of retirement before the trade deadline in November, Lynch would become a free agent if the Seahawks decided to waive him. Anytime after that, he would have to go through waiver wire to join a roster.

Keep in mind, though, that Lynch got pretty animated on 60 Minutes Sports back in June when he was asked if he was actually done: “I’m retired! Is that good enough? Which camera do you want me to look into? I’m done. I’m not playing football anymore.”

Time will tell if he sticks to his word.
