What happens in Mexico stays in Mexico, apparently. That’s the only way to explain why it took four days for a video clip of a Fox Deportes reporter getting hit by a car to go viral.
Over the weekend, reporter David Medrano Mora was standing outside of Guadalajara Airport to break down Chivas’ 2-1 victory over Club America. It should’ve been a routine broadcast, but before he was able to drop any knowledge, he was struck by a car and sent flying out of frame, all while on live TV.
You’d think someone standing in the middle of a parking lot with a camera in front of them would prevent a driver from taking a spot (there are also, like, ten empty ones in the background of the shot). But apparently that’s not how they do it down in Mexico. Luckily, Mora wasn’t run over – probably wondering what the loud thud was, the driver stopped the car immediately and slowly moved forward. Even so, with Mora nowhere in sight, the broadcast quickly returned to his very confused colleague in the studio, who managed to keep his cool while they waited for an update.
“But what happened?” Aldo Sanchez asked. “Careful. We are completely live and will hopefully be back with David soon.”
According to the Daily Mail, Mora left the accident with nothing more than a you-wouldn’t-believe-what-happened-to-me story and a video that’s in the midst of going viral for all the wrong reasons. Even without any bumps or bruises, though, it’s probably the last time he stands outside an airport for the sake of a broadcast.
