Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor Fight Won’t Happen
In what should come as a surprise to no one, a proposed boxing bout between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and retired boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t be happening.
“I tried to make the fight happen between me and Conor McGregor,” Mayweather told FightHype.com. “We wasn’t able to make the fight happen, so we must move on.”
Although it’s highly unlikely that the fight was ever going to happen in the first place, since it was something involving McGregor, there was at least a fair amount of trash talking leading up to the recent news, including The Notorious saying the pound-for-pound champ was, “running around the Showtime offices begging for those executives to come up with $100 million cash for me, to fight me.” And while it was a proposed boxing match, not MMA, McGregror was still confident in his abilities: “I’ve got the boxing community saying I can’t box and then I say, OK, let’s fight.”
Mayweather also dished out some good garbage talk, adding, “I feel honored to be the biggest name in MMA and in boxing and I don’t even compete no more.”
No harm and no foul. Nobody got their face pounded in, and at the end of the day it’s always good when McGregor gets to talk trash on other athletes. It’s a little funnier when he points his verbal attacks at WWE superstars, but one of the best boxers ever is also pretty good.
