At UFC 205 next month, Conor McGregor will fight Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight championship. There’s a lot on the line for McGregor seeing as he has an opportunity to become the first UFC fighter ever to hold two belts simultaneously – one in the Lightweight division, the other in the Featherweight division – if he wins. The only person who has come close to accomplishing that feat before is B.J. Penn, who fell just short against Georges St-Pierre at UFC 94 in 2009.

In the lead-up to the highly anticipated fight, there’s been a lot of talk about whether or not McGregor will actually be able to hold both titles at once. UFC president Dana White seemed receptive to the idea at first, but he changed his stance recently by saying McGregor “will give up one of the titles after that fight in New York.” McGregor, as you’d expect, wasn’t thrilled with White’s response and said he’d need a “fucking army” to take the belts off of him.

But now it seems McGregor has shifted his tone slightly from being prepared to go to war with the UFC to simply wanting an opportunity to remember his historic moment if he takes out Alvarez by snapping photos with both his belts.

“Let me see the pictures on publications with a belt on each shoulder first,” McGregor told Sports Illustrated. “Let me go onto the side of that Octagon and raise two world titles, what’s never been done before, before talking about stripping me. Let me get the fucking things. Let me do it.”

“It’s the media that’s making this,” McGregor continued. “Let me look at the historic images we’re going to get on this night, me with these two belts. That’s what everyone should be excited about – this is history.”

McGregor also said that he’ll “always listen to the correct business move” and will “always do what is the correct move.”

Of course, he has to beat Alvarez before he can raise two belts. That’s what everybody seems to be forgetting.
