Conor McGregor Can’t Hold Multiple UFC Titles, Says Dana White

Conor McGregor’s dream of holding multiple UFC belts could finally come true at UFC 205 next month when he fights Eddie Alvarez for a shot at the lightweight title. If victorious, not only would McGregor become just the third fighter in UFC history to win a title in two weight divisions, he would become the first to do so simultaneously. It’s something he’s had his eyes set on doing long before he thought he was going to fight Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196.

However, while it once looked like Dana White would be receptive to the idea of McGregor holding two belts at the same time, the UFC president is forcing him to make a decision. While on SportsCenter earlier this week, White said that McGregor will have to sacrifice one of his belts – which one is yet to be determined – if he defeats Alvarez on Nov. 12.

“So this fight’s coming up. He wants to try to gain both belts,” White said. “He will give up one of the titles after that fight in New York.”

Unfortunately for White, it might not be that easy. When asked about White’s comments at the UFC 205 press conference on Tuesday, McGregor said he’ll basically do everything in his power to keep both of his belts: “I’m gonna wrap one on one shoulder and I’m gonna wrap the other one on the other shoulder, and they’re gonna need a fucking army to come take them belts off me.”
