Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Hype ‘Billion-Dollar’ Brawl

It’s definitely possibly maybe going to happen (but probably not), but that hasn’t stopped Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather from stoking the flames surrounding their rumored “billion-dollar” brawl.
After a report that the two fighters were close to settling their long-simmering feud had the fight world humming – said brawl would supposedly take place this summer in Las Vegas, which just so happens to be the site of UFC 200 – Mac and Money spent the weekend hyping the bout…while also not really saying anything at all.
On Saturday, Mayweather was asked about coming out of retirement to take on an MMA fighter before the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan, and while he didn’t mention McGregor by name, he did take credit for starting the buzz about their supposed fight…which is about the most Mayweather move imaginable.
“It’s possible. There was a name that was shot at me. But the rumors that y’all have been hearing [are] the rumors I started,” he told FightHype.com. “It may not be a rumor. Keep your fingers crossed. It may be a boxer versus an MMA fighter. We just don’t know.”
That, in turn, inspired McGregor to mock up a poster for their potential fight (is there anything he can’t do?) and throw it up on Twitter, along with the tagline “MMA vs. Boxing.”

For the record, McGregor is still under contract to UFC – not meeting certain obligations of the deal led to his rematch with Nate Diaz being dropped from UFC 200 – and the company’s president, Dana White, has already dismissed the report in England’s The Sun that said his Featherweight Champion would be fighting Floyd any time soon.
“It’s not true; it’s just a tabloid story,” White told Yahoo! Sports. “And as far as I knew, Floyd is retired and he’s been on a worldwide vacation and hasn’t even been thinking of fighting.”
