Much like the rest of us, Oakland A’s closer Sean Doolittle couldn’t wait to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
He’s been tweeting about it non-stop since the trailer came out back in October, contributed to breaking the Internet by securing his tickets as soon as they became available online and even changed his Twitter handle to “Mace WinDOO” – you know, just like Samuel L. Jackson’s Jedi character in that crappy trio of Star Wars films we’d all like to pretend never happened.
In other words: When Doolittle says he’s a Star Wars nerd, he isn’t kidding around.
However, unlike most other nerds, Doolittle actually has a girlfriend – a very patient one, willing to dress up in the special new outfit he bought for her to wear to Thursday night’s first screening of The Force Awakens. But needless to say, she was less than enthused.
“I bought you a new outfit,” he said. “We’re going out tonight,” he said. “Go try it on,” he said. This is garbage. pic.twitter.com/Dj3pEFhf9Q

She wasn’t alone, though, because Doolittle also bought himself a Chewbacca costume. You didn’t think he’d really turn up as himself, did you?
There was some awkward tension along the way – we get the feeling that same scene played out in cars all across America last night – as well as itchy costume issues, but they eventually made it to the venue with happy faces. And judging by Doolittle’s concise review of the movie (“THAT. WAS. AAAAWESOME.”) he wouldn’t hesitate to do it all over again. Though maybe don’t bring the GF next time, dude.
