Yoko Ono Launches Fashion Line Inspired by John Lennon

Yoko Ono is behind a new fashion line from Opening Ceremony inspired by a series of drawings titled “Fashions for Men.” She sketched them in 1969 as a gift to her late husband, John Lennon, before they were married, Women’s Wear Daily reports.

“I was inspired to create ‘Fashions for Men,’ amazed at how my man was looking so great. I felt it was a pity if we could not make clothes emphasizing his very sexy bod,” said Ono of her inspiration for the 43-year-old designs. “So I made this whole series with love for his hot bod and gave it to him as a wedding present. You can imagine how he went wild and fell in love with me even more.”

The collection is available at Opening Ceremony’s New York store and will hit shelves in Los Angeles, London and Tokyo soon. Also for sale is a softcover book that compiles Ono’s annotated sketches of tailored pieces, sportswear, footwear, headwear and other accessories.

“I think she just fell in love with John’s body and wanted to show off all of the parts of his body that she loved,” said Opening Ceremony co-founder Humberto Leon. “There’s something so beautiful about that sentiment. And we’ve realized these designs in pretty actual terms of how she drew them.”

Other items in the collection include suit pants embossed with a cutout of a hand sewn over the crotch and a jersey pullover with eyelets cut out around the nipples. Fashionable consumers worried about indecent exposure can also purchase fully functioning, battery-operated lightbulb bras to wear underneath.

There were pieces that didn’t make the Opening Ceremony cut, though: a pair of underwear made from a rigid mask, and an outfit dubbed Dinnerwear that consists of a pair of pants with a lion’s tail attached to the rear. That one comes with instructions: “Wear perfume on top, also, dog leash optional and gloves.”
