See Highlights From Rolling Stone’s Inaugural Women Shaping the Future Event

Rolling Stone‘s March Issue, “Women Shaping the Future,” featured Nancy Pelosi along with three resilient members of the congressional freshman class — Jahana Hayes, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar — on the cover. Despite chatter that incoming liberals would clash with the old guard in Congress, they all voted for Pelosi to be Speaker of the House and put politics aside when they showed up for the photo shoot. “There was no sense that these were women who didn’t get along,” says Catriona Ni Aolain, Rolling Stone‘s director of creative content, who produced the shoot with photographer Zoey Grossman. “I felt no tension or weird energy. The whole thing was very convivial.”
Inside, the issue also featured interviews with leaders and visionaries across politics, music, TV, film, science, tech and more. To celebrate the inaugural “Women Shaping the Future” issue, we hosted an intimate event on Wednesday, March 20th, where contributing editor Alex Morris Kling spoke with Leana Wen, president of Planned Parenthood; TV host, journalist and philanthropist Tamron Hall; and Congresswoman Jahana Hayes. The event also featured special performances by Grammy-nominated artist Emily King as well as America’s Got Talent winner Grace VanderWaal.
Additional notable attendees included Piper Perabo (Black Butterfly), Lea DeLaria (Orange Is the New Black), singer Colbie Caillat who attended with her husband and Gone West bandmates, Bethany C. Meyers (founder of the be.come project), Carla Hall (The Chew / GMA Day), Gail Simmons (Top Chef), model Denise Bidot, Violett Beane (God Friended Me), Shazi Raja (God Friended Me), Shahadi Wright Joseph (Us), Valorie Curry (After Darkness), pianist Chloe Flower, Julie Goldman (Life, Animated), Meg Donnelly (American Housewife), Anna Wood (Falling Water) who attended with husband Dane DeHaan, Eris Baker (This Is Us), Lily Chee (The Other Two) and more.
