Wii 2: Can Nintendo Win the Next-Gen Game?

Call it Wii 2, “Project Café,” “Stream” or simply Nintendo’s newest video game system. Either way, the next Wii console will be revealed at gaming tradeshow E3 2011 in June, and is due to hit stores in 2012.

While no details have been confirmed, rumors currently swirl regarding the sequel to the groundbreaking set-top entertainment device, which has sold over 86 million copies and made motion controls a household name. High-definition (HD) graphics, a controller with a built-in touchscreen and even greater computing power than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are just a few of the purported planned features.

With Wii sales falling, few games besides classic Nintendo franchises succeeding on the platform and the system’s standard-definition (SD) visuals and limited online multiplayer and multimedia capabilities looking increasingly archaic, insiders agree on one thing, though: An upgrade is long overdue. This video explains what it’ll take for the Wii 2 to triumph in the next generation, and send Microsoft and Sony packing.
