Watch Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Farewell ‘Ham4Ham’ Appearance

‘Hamilton’ creator gives his final show curtain call on Saturday

Hamilton creator and soon-to-be leaving lead star Lin-Manuel Miranda made his final “#Ham4Ham” appearance, where he and other cast members perform for fans waiting in the Broadway show’s lottery ticket line. In a video filmed on Wednesday, he discussed how the event first developed, read a love letter and sang.

Miranda read a love letter from 1780, which Alexander Hamilton wrote to his future wife, Eliza. “It kind of captures everything I love about Hamilton,” Miranda says in the clip. “He’s kind of arrogant, he’s kind of insecure, he’s unbelievably romantic. It’s funny, it’s sad and it’s basically him saying to Eliza, ‘Don’t marry me if you think you can’t be happy broke, because we might end up broke.”

After the humorous and touching reading, Miranda sang a joyous “Happy Trails” with fellow departing castmates Leslie Odom Jr. and Phillipa Soo, all of whom will give their last Hamilton performances on Saturday. Miranda’s alternate, Javier Muñoz, will take over the main role full time. As AP reports, Brandon Victor Dixon will replace Odom Jr. for the part of Aaron Burr and Lexi Lawson will assume Soo’s role as Eliza.

In recent weeks, Miranda has been involved with a couple projects to benefit the victims of the tragic Pulse Nighclub shooting in Orlando. He teamed with Jennifer Lopez for “Love Make the World Go Round” and joined a bevy of Broadway stars for a recording of “What the World Needs Now is Love.”
