Watch Amy Schumer’s Unapologetic Glamour Awards Speech
If Amy Schumer hadn’t already won the Trailblazer of the Year title at the 2015 Glamour Women of the Year Awards, her hilarious and candid acceptance speech would have gotten it for her. The comedian and actress joked about her weight, beauty magazines and other winners of the night at the podium.
“I’m probably like 160 pounds right now, and I can catch a dick whenever I want,” Schumer joked early in her speech. The early comment began a series of anecdotes and statements that were both inspiring and self-deprecating from the Comedy Central star, including a story about losing her two front teeth and getting her first period in the same week. “I was just this Jack-O-Lantern with tits walking around,” she said.
“Glamour has been so nice to me,” Schumer stated with sincerity about the magazine hosting the event. “Any comic in the room knows that when a female comic does a photoshoot, they’re like ‘Oh, cool, can you hold this plastic dick over your head? We’re going to shoot actual cum out of it.'” For Schumer, Glamour was the first publication to have her just smile for her portrait.
She also praised the magazine for giving her a voice, noting that they had published a story she had relayed about feeling used by a guy in college. “I’m not going to apologize for who I am, and I’m going to actually love the skin I’m in and not be striving for some other version of myself,” she said to a round of applause.
Schumer wrapped up her speech as unapologetically as she began it, noting how most of the male audience members were not laughing at her jokes and thanking Goldie Hawn. “I feel like I’ve burned all the bridges possible,” she added before leaving the stage.
Schumer will star in the movie Trainwreck, in theaters July 17th.
