‘The Voice’ Power Ranking: America Picks A Fantastic Four

Judge: Cee Lo Green
Rank: 1
Team (in ranked order): Vicci Martinez, Nakia
Why: Nakia’s “Whataya Want From Me” was good, but last night Vicci was great, with a take on Florence and The Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over” that Florence herself might be proud of. Vicci kicked off the dramatic performance with the song’s slow drum beat, raising her arms like a warrior and seeming to claim her rightful spot as the people’s choice two nights in a row.
Judge: Adam Levine
Rank: 2 (tied w/Blake)
Team (in ranked order): Javier Colon, Casey Weston
Why: “I Will Always Love You” might have been the wrong song for Casey Weston, who kept slipping into the grooves of both Dolly Parton’s and Whitney Houston’s signature inroads without ever taking off on her own. As a result, she wasn’t entirely there last night, whereas Javier, with his assured, slightly boring rendition of Coldplay’s “Fix You,” was strong enough to retain the lead he’d already taken.
Judge: Blake Shelton
Rank: 2 (tied w/Adam)
Team (in ranked order): Dia Frampton, Xenia
Why: Both Blake’s girls are equally promising and equally beloved by their enormous coach, but Dia is way more seasoned than Xenia and it shows. One half of a formerly Warner Brothers-signed band, Dia arranges her songs with a clever eye for not-so-risky risks, which she did again last night with an acoustic take on R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion.” Xenia meanwhile, sang “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” looking like she might be scared of butterflies.
Judge: Christina Aguilera
Rank: 3
Team (in ranked order): Beverly McClellan, Frenchie Davis
Why: Both Bev and Frenchie are vocal powerhouses with mesmerizingly bald heads – but only Bev works the crowd like a headliner at Lollapalooza. Frenchie’s inability last night to reign in her backup singers on “Like A Prayer” only heightened the contrast of Bev completely owning BB King’s “The Thrill Is Gone” with an appropriately subdued, bluesy confidence.
