Funny or Die and D.C. venue the 9:30 Club will host the event, which will also feature Phoebe Robinson (2 Dope Queens), Samantha Ronson, Sam Harris (X Ambassadors), Casey Wilson, June Diane Raphael, Morgan Walsh and Ronna & Beverly. The 9:30 Club placed 10 pairs of tickets for auction via Charitybuzz; the sale ends Friday, January 20th, with proceeds also benefitting Planned Parenthood.
In a statement announcing the event, Senator Franken said he “cares deeply” about Planned Parenthood, a nonprofit organization that offers reproductive health services and sexual education across the U.S. and the world.
“I believe in a concept that Republicans just don’t seem to grasp: that women deserve to be able to make their own decisions about their health,” he said. “And Planned Parenthood has been making it possible for women to make choices for themselves and their families for 100 years. With the continued attacks on women’s reproductive rights and efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, Republicans are telling women that they don’t deserve to think for themselves. That’s wrong, and that’s why you can count on me to do whatever I can to defend Planned Parenthood.”
Organizers also announced newly designed T-shirts and posters that will be available at the 9:30 Club during the show on TVP Market following the event. All proceeds will benefit Planned Parenthood.
Last week, the Women’s March on Washington organizers released an ambitious platform focusing on a broad range of subjects, including reproductive freedom, gender equality, racial equality, LGBTQIA equality, economic justice, equal pay, paid family leave and ending violence against women, police brutality and racial profiling.
