The Fashion Set Hits Coachella, Despite Rain

It was a tempest-tossed weekend at Coachella, but no amount of wind and rain could dampen the spirits of the several-hundred-thousand festival attendees. It certainly did not prevent the notoriously finicky fashion types from milling from the temperate safety of the V.I.P. tent to brave the elements for Radiohead’s Day Two-clinching set. Of course, even as the last strains of “Paranoid Android” settled into collective memory, some had their minds on one one thing: the infamous Coachella party scene, where the models, designers and style mavens of the festival truly come into their element.
Mulberry, very musically aware of late, held a private daytime BBQ where arena-sized UK rockers Kasabian played an intimate yet bombastic show for attendees (including Sky Ferreira, Emma Watson and model Arizona Muse). It was not unlike the band’s Fashion Week rooftop concert that Rolling Stone enjoyed last September. Similarly, other notable fashion-sponsored ‘Chella events clearly had sunny skies in mind: Guess held a party on an artificial lake, luring in Vanessa Hudgens and Theophilus London. Lacoste’s splashier pool-side shindig, meanwhile, encouraged Glee‘s Lea Michelle, Kristen Stewart, Azealia Banks, Katy Perry and designer Alexander Wang to bust out their beachwear for a few hours.
On the nightlife front, Armani Exchange paired with T-Mobile for “Neon Carnival,” an extreme display of West Coast hedonism at its boldest. Usher, Emma Roberts, Camilla Belle, model Chanel Iman and Jared Followill of Kings of Leon revelled in the makeshift amusement park, which included bumper cars. Wang also showed up, no doubt mentally comparing it to his own infamous carnival-themed Fashion Week afterparty of 2010. Not to be outdone, Jeremy Scott threw his annual mammoth-sized soiree alongside Adidas at Twin Palms, a/k/a Frank Sinatra’s former residence. A reliably motley cast came out to indulge in the visually loud spectacle, including Lindsay Lohan and Snoop Dogg.
Next Monday, we’ll assess which performers had the best stage looks. By then, they will have had two weekends to bring the stylish heat – weather be damned.
