See Tituss Burgess From ‘Kimmy Schmidt’ Audition for ‘Hamilton’

Scene-stealing Netflix character tries out for the role of “rapping Alexander Hamilton”

During the Tony Awards, viewers were treated to one actor who may have been snubbed: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Tituss Burgess, A.K.A. Titus Andromedon, who shared his “lost audition” for Best Musical winner Hamilton.

In a white wig and makeshift eighteenth century garb, Andromedon tried out for the role of “rapping Alexander Hamilton” even though he hasn’t seen the show or even received audition materials. “I think I get it,” he says before playing his backing music while holding a $10 bill and singing about one day being on the $10 bill. Andromedon takes a stab at rapping — “Rap, rap, rappity-rap/ This is me rapping” — and ends his clip with wind blowing through his white wig.

A clip of outtakes were also shared, which features some false starts and political riffing from Andromedon. “I applaud your effort to keep a woman off the $10 bill,” he says. “We’re not ready, America!” At the end, he has a quick mishap with his tape recorder. “That’s unfortch because the rest of it was brillz,” he says emphatically.

The second season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is streaming on Netflix now.

‘Hamilton’ cast performed “History Has Its Eyes on You” and “Yorktown” at the 2016 Tony Awards. Watch here.
