Rolling Stone headed to Minneapolis with actors, social media stars and real-life couple Mark Dohner and Kylie Rae for the 2017 X Games with Harley-Davidson.
The first stop was the pre-show party, where the duo made custom t-shirts, took in live performances and caught up with participating athletes, including UFC fighter Paige Vanzant, snowboarder Ben Fergusen and BMX rider Mike “Hucker” Clark.
Traveling over 300 miles from Milwaukee, Vanzant made the trip to Minnesota on her Harley – her first time riding in traffic. “I grew up riding in the country,” she explains. “It was my first time riding on the road. I’m super excited to be a road rider now.”
Dohner and Rae, meanwhile, completed their first H-D training course together a few weeks before their own trip, and were pumped to ride around Minneapolis en route to the X Games – and to see their first flat track race.
“There’s something about being on a Harley-Davidson … you’re just, like, a badass,” Dohner says. “And the best part to me is you have to concentrate when you’re on the bike. It makes you focused, it makes you more aware and it makes riding fun.”
Training with his girlfriend Rae, Dohner gushes, made the experience even more meaningful. “The coolest thing about the academy was learning small things [about motorcycles] that you would never really think about.”
Adds an impressed Rae: “They were doing wheelies for the warm-up. What is that?”
