Quentin Tarantino is planning to adapt his new Western, 'The Hateful Eight,' into a play

Quentin Tarantino‘s bloody Western film The Hateful Eight hasn’t left theaters, but the director is already prepping its next life as a play. “I’ve thought it out completely,” the filmmaker told The Wrap after Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony. “I’m just waiting for this [awards] season to be over so I can write it. I gotta put myself there and write it for this.”

Tarantino noted that he would also direct the stage adaptation, adding that producer Harvey Weinstein initially pushed for a play version before The Hateful Eight became a film. “Harvey actually – he tried to talk me into doing it as a play first,” Tarantino said. “He said, ‘Let’s just say this out loud before we commit to doing the movie.’ And I was like, ‘Look, I could. But I like the mystery aspect, and the mystery aspect will really only work in the movie. And I have the 70mm and I have the snow. So let me do that.'”

Tarantino first announced The Hateful Eight in November 2013, but infamously canceled the release after the script leaked online in January 2014. The director considered adapting the screenplay into a novel – but after holding a script reading with the full cast in Los Angeles, the positive response prompted him to switch his focus back to a film.

In addition to directing The Hateful Eight, Tarantino also faced a number of controversies in 2015 for his comments on everything from police brutality to Disney.
