“Osbournes” Earns Emmy Nod

Sting, Madonna, Britney specials also recognized

The Osbournes continues to burrow into American popular culture, as the bleep-centric reality show received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Non-Fiction Program (Reality) by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Other music-related programs pulled in numerous nominations. The America: A Tribute to Heroes telethon from last September, which featured performances by Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and others, received six nods, including Outstanding Direction for Variety, Musical or Comedy Special, and Outstanding Writing. The VH1 broadcast of Paul McCartney’s Concert for New York City also received two nominations, including Outstanding Art Direction for a Mini-Series, Movie or Special, and Outstanding Direction for Variety, Music or Comedy Special.

Four music specials — U2 Elevation 2001: Live From Boston, Janet Jackson: In Concert From Hawaii, Come Together: A Night for John Lennon’s Words and Music or Sting in Tuscany . . . All This Time — are up for Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Mini-Series, Movie or Special. Sting in Tuscany, which also received six nominations, will compete with Billy Joel: In His Own Words for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program, and with Britney Spears Live From Las Vegas for Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special. Madonna Live: The Drowned World Tour and Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration will battle in the Outstanding Choreography category.

The fifty-fourth annual Emmy Awards will be held on September 22nd, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
