One ‘Slender Man’ Attacker Deemed Mentally Incompetent

One of the two 12-year-old girls from Wisconsin who stands accused of stabbing another 12-year-old 19 times in order to appease the fictional internet meme Slender Man has been deemed mentally incompetent by a doctor. A Waukesha County Circuit Court judge has ordered more testing and a hearing, NBC News reports. It is unclear which of the alleged tween attackers – Morgan Geyser or Anissa Weier – was the subject of the report.

Both preteens recently appeared in court to answer charges as adults for first-degree attempted homicide. The 12-year-olds’ lawyers hope to have the case transferred to a juvenile court. The parents of one of the girls reportedly wept when she entered the courtroom.
The two preteens were apprehended in early June after they allegedly brought the other girl into the woods, where one reportedly pushed her down and sat while they took turns stabbing her. After the attack, the victim managed to crawl to a nearby road where she was found by a cyclist. The suspects later told investigators that they had read about Slender Man – a suit-wearing fictional character with arms that extend and retract and whose face is obscured – on the website CreepyPasta. The site has upheld that the stories about Slender Man were works of fiction and that it “does not endorse or advocate for the killing, worship and otherwise replication of rituals of fictional works,” as the Associated Press reported.
NBC News has also reported that the victim has been on a “miraculous road to recovery,” following treatment.
