Nicki Minaj Is Jeremy Scott’s New Muse For Adidas

Nicki Minaj imbued MAC cosmetic ads with her unmistakable zany flair, but now she’s proving her eccentric glamor suits the world of sports apparel just fine, too. In a designer/artist union that somehow feels overdue, Minaj was recently spotted shooting an ad for Adidas Originals alongside Jeremy Scott, who creates daring activewear for the brand. Though specifics concerning the shoot remain vague, her outfit, masterminded and tweeted by Scott, spoke loudly on its own.
Described by one site as resembling a “Rainbow Brite” game, Minaj sported a blue puffer jacket-dress combo dotted in a busy dotted pattern resembling lights. Well, Scott’s last runway collection was inspired in part by the glory days of Hasbro, so who better to bring that concept to life? She also wore the wildly hued, zebra-patterned “multi-colored Instinct-Hi sneaker,” a Scott x Adidas signature creation that seems hard to imagine on another singer (except, perhaps, Lil Wayne).
With Katy Perry’s Adidas ad now in full rotation and Minaj’s on the docket, the brand’s recent affinity for kooky pop stars is hard to deny. Could a Kreayshawn or Karmin campaign be around the corner?
