Madame Tussauds Introduces Freaky, Festive Lady Gaga Wax Sculpture

The new wax figure of Lady Gaga wearing a dress made from cling film designed by Adnan Bayatt stands in a Christmas grotto at Madame Tussauds in Blackpool, England.

The world’s most famous wax museum, Madame Tussauds, just unveiled a brand new sculpture of the world’s most famous pop star. Tussauds’ latest wax approximation of Lady Gaga, their ninth(!) overall, features the singer in a stylized wintertime grotto setting and is on display at their Blackpool locale.

Dubbed the “Ice Queen” Gaga, the waxwork features the singer in a suitably frigid-looking white and icy green gown and fringed headdress created by British designer Adnan Bayatt. Made of recycled cling film, it honors both the pop star’s proclivity for unconventional fabrics as well as her recent fixation on English fashion design. To add to the wintry phosphorescent effect, the dress also features LED lights.

Compared to the more sophisticated and painstakingly rendered Gaga waxworks that Tussauds dramatically unveiled last year – which featured couture-worthy headwear from Philip Treacy and bespoke Giorgio Armani pieces – this is more akin to a frivolous funhouse display, a seasonal flash in the pan like Christmas decor itself. Spectacularly gaudy as the display is, we can’t help but think that it would have made for an ideal pièce de résistance at the pop artist’s own holiday-themed Gaga’s Workshop, now open at the luxury department store Barney’s in Manhattan.
