Kim Gordon will offer a holistic view of her life and art in the upcoming memoir Girl in a Band, which hits shelves on February 24th, 2015 via Dey Street Books, an imprint of publisher Harper Collins. As Pitchfork reports, the memoir will also focus on “the examination of what partnership means – and what happens when it dissolves,” a reference to Sonic Youth’s 2011 split and her separation from the band’s frontman, Thurston Moore.

Girl in a Band will chronicle Gordon’s “childhood, her life in art, her move to New York City, her love affairs, her marriage, her relationship with her daughter and her band.” The title is likely a reference to Sonic Youth’s “Sacred Trickster,” a track from the band’s 2009 LP, The Eternal

Gordon has remained prolific since the break-up of that legendary alt-rock outfit. In 2011, she started a noise-rock project, Body/Head, with guitarist Bill Nace; their debut LP, Coming Apart, was released in 2013. Last year, she contributed vocals on an extended, 15-minute version of Beck’s “I Won’t Be Long,” and this past April, she joined the living members of Nirvana for a rousing cover of “Aneurysm” at the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. She even found time to make a guest acting appearance on the third season of Lena Dunham’s acclaimed HBO series, Girls.

Body/Head will release a new single, “The Show Is Over,” next month via Matador Records. Gordon and Nace also have a trio of live dates scheduled for November, including two performances at Brooklyn’s Union Pool on the 6th and 7th.
