Want to get your hands on a 1966 Fender guitar? Chances are if you’re an independent artist, you won’t know exactly where to find one, let alone be able to afford it off the bat. But finding what you need outside New York, Los Angeles, or Nashville doesn’t have to be so tough anymore.
In April, Hello Music went from being a collective A&R company to an online marketplace for independent musicians. “We realized that the musicians were the customers,” CEO Rick Camino said. Since then they have secured deals on instruments, home-recording equipment, and even studio time for musicians who would have otherwise not been able to buy these products and services at full price.
In a similar chord, Hello Music has just announced an expansion to their music-oriented offers by including vintage instruments. Hello Music Vintage launched last week thanks to exclusive partnerships with Norman’s Rare Guitars in Los Angeles and Chelsea Guitars in New York. The company plans to add more vintage retailers in the near future.
“Partnering with Hello Music Vintage is a monumental step for us,” said Norman Harris, owner of Norman’s Rare Guitars. The vintage retailer, which has been operating in the Los Angeles area for 37 years, will now be able to sell their products and expand their brand nationwide.
Musicians now have access to rare and one-of-a-kind electric, acoustic, and bass guitars for a fraction of their retail price and retailers like Norman’s have a brand new customer base of over 100,000 members registered on Hello Music. So how is this different than just a Groupon geared towards musicians? Unlike a flash sale site, Hello Music gets the instruments and accessories for the same price as any other distributor. To manufacturers, there’s no difference price-wise selling the products to Hello Music or Guitar Center.
