Goole, Apple Top Workers’ Career Wish Lists

Young professionals dreaming of new jobs most want to work for Google and Apple, according to a career study by consulting firm Universum. On a top 10 list assembled by polling 10,306 college graduates with one to eight years’ professional experience, these tech companies ranked first and second among respondents’ most desired employers, respectively.

The Walt Disney Co., the U.S. Department of State, the FBI, the CIA, NASA and Teach for America also ranked high among young workers’ most-wanted employment options. Tech firms enjoyed an especially large presence on the list, though, with and Microsoft placing fifth and seventh, pointing toward the public’s growing fascination with online services and consumer electronics. Respondents, who were asked to pick up to five ideal employers out of a list of 150, were also allowed to pencil in companies not mentioned, further underscored the point, with Facebook topping the list of add-ons.

Universum credits clever branding for its findings, as these companies are publicly viewed as a growing source of innovation and popular products. Firms in other fields may soon have further worries, as the company says a quarter of young professionals hope to change jobs within the next six months, and a full third plans to do so in one to two years.
