One month after pulling his hit game Flappy Bird from app stores everywhere and going off the grid, creator Dong Nguyen returned to Twitter to tell fans that he was working on a new version. “It will not be the original game but a better one,” he tweeted. “I keep my word.”

Nguyen revealed the news during an impromptu Twitter Q&A with fans, though he didn’t say when the game would be available. “I don’t work by plan,” he wrote. “I will release it when it is done.” When asked if he would put Flappy Bird back on the App Store Nguyen replied, “Yes. But not soon.” Nguyen even took a moment to thank and shout out Justin Bieber, who’d followed him on Twitter.

Despite Flappy Bird’s massive success, Nguyen felt stifled by the attention, as well as all the criticism directed his way. As Rolling Stone learned in an exclusive interview with Nguyen, it wasn’t just the paparazzi and claims that he’d ripped off early Nintendo art, but the creator also began receiving e-mails from parents who complained his game was distracting their kids (and even causing them to break their phones) and workers who said they had lost their jobs.

At the time, Nguyen said he was considering making Flappy Bird available again, though with caveat: “Please take a break.” Nguyen did add that he felt “relief” now that the game was gone, continuing, “I can’t go back to my life before, but I’m good now.”
