In every sports movie there’s a scene where the coach gives a massive pep talk to the team, hyping them for battle with wild gesticulations and over-the-top proclamations. Evidently at academic powerhouse Georgia Tech, the same kind of enthusiastic speechifying happens outside of the locker room.
A sophomore named Nicholas Selby has done for mechanical engineering what Al Pacino did for the gridiron in Any Given Sunday: made it sound amazingly awesome. Demanding his fellow students “crush the shoulders of the giants upon whom we stand,” Selby says they can change the world, build the Iron Man suit and play theme music during their speeches “like a badass.” (Yes, he’s playing theme music while he freaks out onstage.)
Watch and compare Selby’s extremely enthusiastic speech to some of the greatest locker-room monologues of all time.
