A number of notable female musicians, actresses and artists have banded together to support a Kickstarter to launch the School of Doodle, a free, online high school for imagination for teenage girls. Courtney Love, Kim Gordon, Cat Power, Pussy Riot, Sia and Yoko Ono are among those backing the project who have contributed a doodle or offered to teach a class. Artist Jenny Holzer, comedian Sarah Silverman, author Susan Orlean and actresses Lil Taylor, Natasha Lyonne and Samira Wiley have also lent their support to the project.

The campaign organizers explain in the video that “a girl’s imagination is a right and not a privilege,” with the school’s objective being to protect that right for future generations of men and women. “Our mission is to change the way girls value themselves and teach them to ‘be loud,'” the campaign reads. “Our vision is a world where girls don’t ask for permission. Our goal is to promote and protect girls’ imaginations.” The school defines “being loud” as something similar to moxie, the confidence to speak up.

The online school will offer general lessons, in-depth classes (such as Kim Gordon teaching girls how to write a three-chord song) and an opportunity to teach lessons or share tips. The school will also reward students with “doodle dollars” for engaging with the school; the currency purchases “real world experiences,” mentor lessons and tools for imagination. The backing rewards include T-shirts, coloring books and prints of celebrity doodles.

The school is seeking $75,000 for its launch and, at the time of this post, it has raised nearly $48,000.
