Blige Takes “Divas” to the Desert

Cher, Celine also onboard for fifth anniversary of “Divas” series

VH1’s Divas Live series will make its return on May 23rd, with Mary J. Blige, Cher and Celine Dion among the divas taking the stage for the show’s fifth anniversary. Unlike the previous Divas performances, which were held in New York City, this year’s event will be held in Las Vegas, at the MGM Grand. Additional performers, presenters and special guests are expected to be added to the lineup.

Proceeds from Divas Las Vegas will be directed toward’s VH1’s Save the Music charity, which works to aid music programs in America’s public schools. In the organization’s five years, more than $17 million worth of musical instruments have been donated to several hundred schools.

Both Dion and Cher will have the chance to plug new material. Cher’s Living Proof and Dion’s New Day Has Come, while Blige re-released her 2001 album, No More Drama, in January, with new tracks. In other Blige news, the singer cancelled a concert scheduled for next week in Milan after the U.S. State Department issued a warning of “possible threats” to U.S. citizens in four Italian cities late last month.

Tickets for VH1 Divas Las Vegas will run $150, $100 and $40 and go on sale April 13th through TicketMaster and the MGM Grand.
