Though London Fashion Week is a hotbed of musical activity (this weekend alone we were treated to fashion party sets from homegrown talents Hot Chip and Hurts), it’s rare a major international star shows up just for the sake of it. So when singer Beyoncé, alongside her mother Tina Knowles, graced the booming party scene Saturday night at Selfridge’s, it was a huge ordeal for the London style scene. Naturally, there was a timely rhyme and reason for their Fashion Week cameo: the U.K. retail debut of House of Deréon’s autumn/winter 2011 collection. Available exclusively at Selfridge’s, the line’s unveiling took place within a glitzy car park at the department store’s flagship store. U.K. singer Ellie Goulding and actress (and sometimes singer) Rosario Dawson joined the mother-to-be in celebrating the event.

The singer called the recent milestone “a dream come true” for her line, telling reporters it’s been a goal long in the making. She noted her admiration for London style, describing the city’s women as a bit more “experimental” in their wardrobe tastes. As House of Deréon’s latest collection is decidely pancultural in its ambitions, London’s embrace of wordly styles suits the line well. Those looks, according to a release from the label, are inspired by Beyoncé’s travels, and provide a tidy overview of everything from flamenco frocks to Aztec warrior queen ensembles. Though the singer’s megahit “Run The World (Girls)” soundtracked many Spring 2012 fashion events over the past two weeks, it felt especially relevant as the theme of Beyoncé’s own event, as she rolled out her latest global manifesto, one outfit at a time.
