Beth Ditto Turns Adventurous Personal Style Into Bold MAC Cosmetics Collection

After serving as an unconventional muse for a myriad of eccentric designers and stylists in the fashion universe, Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto brings her colorful flair to MAC Cosmetics for a capsule makeup line of her own. Set to hit stores worldwide on June 7th, the capsule collection sees Ditto imbuing her trademark knack for pop art influence into wildly pigmented hues and graphical makeup concepts. As fans of the singer’s style know, her penchant for avant-garde design and Divine-inspired glamor have earned her a certain cult icon status in recent years. As a size 28, she’s been unafraid of progressing plus-sized women’s roles in fashion, and has both sat front row at Chanel and walked on Jean Paul Gaultier’s catwalk. In 2009, she even had her own clothing line at UK retailer Evans, and has discussed a “high concept” plus-sized line of her own in the future – when she has time.
For now, she is happy to play with color and its possibilities on a woman’s face. “I’m passionate about color. My best friend and I sit and look at Pantone books for fun,” she said in a recent interview with MusingsOfAMuse.com. She lists her beauty icons as Grace Jones and Peggy Moffitt, and calls Cyndi Lauper and Boy George her overall influences. These inspirations clearly make their case in the space age Pierrot look Ditto sports in her MAC ad campaign. While Ditto naturally embodies her collection best, any adventurous cosmetic enthusiast will delight in the polka dot inspiration and makeup designs.
The singer christened colors with names like “Booyah!” ( a bright orange lipstick) and “Near Beth Experience” (a yellow nail lacquer), making it clear that those who share her sense of fun and mischief will get the biggest kick out of her offerings. But a music/makeup collaboration would make no sense without a strong eye palette; Ditto’s version comes in the form of the formidably named “Greasepaint” liner and eyeshadow duo, a combination whose name alone indicates nuclear results.
