Who says Barbie couldn’t possibly resemble a real woman? The iconic flaxen-haired doll will be the namesake of a live-action comedy sometime in the near future, according to Los Angeles Times. Production on the film will begin at the end of the year.

The film, which will be written by Jenny Bicks (Rio 2, What a Girl Wants) and produced by husband and wife Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (Men in Black 3), will draw from the mythos of Barbie in her many guises. The character will reportedly inhabit roles that play off the over 150 looks Barbie has had over the past 55 years, from princess to president and mermaid to movie star (though, it should be noted, the producers have not disclosed which Barbies will be included, mermaid fans should not hold their breath). Hannah Minghella, Columbia Pictures’ president of production, described the movie’s concept as “unexpected, clever and truly funny” in a statement.

The Barbie movie marks the first collaboration between Sony and toymaker Mattel since they agreed to make a movie based on He-Man and the Skeletor-hating characters of Masters of the Universe. (The project should not be confused with the 1987 live-action Dolph Lundgren picture.) That film is still in development.

Currently, the top-grossing movie for 2014 has been toy-to-screen adaptation The Lego Movie. Additionally, a fourth Transformers movie will hit theaters in June.
